Q&A with Scott Bromley, Senior QA Engineer

In celebration of Engineers Week 2023, we're getting to know some of our very own engineers. In this Q&A, we shine the spotlight on Scott Bromley, Senior QA Engineer, from our Uplynk division.

Why did you choose to become an engineer?

John Arnold, Jurassic Park. :)

I think engineering chose me, as trite as that sounds, but the diversity of the problems and economic opportunities have kept me around.

What are the most important qualities for an engineer to have?

Curiosity, the ability to learn from others and humility.

What do you enjoy most about being an engineer? And about being an engineer at Edgio?

I most enjoy the process of confronting challenging problems with elegant and readily understandable solutions. As far as being an engineer at Edgio, I most enjoy the complexity and novelty of the problems we’re solving.

What excites you about the future of engineering and what we are doing here at Edgio?

I'm excited about the cloud slicer effort and providing the most cost-efficient technical solutions for the OTT market.

What advice would you give to someone who is just beginning their engineering career?

Find a mentor and ask a lot of questions; do not be afraid to fail.

Share a fun fact about yourself or something you enjoy doing outside of work.

I am an avid gardener and binge-watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Arrested Development. I also read a lot of non-fiction, and my favorite director is Stanley Kubrick.

Engineers Week 2023 runs from February 19 to 25. By working together to develop new technologies, products and opportunities, engineers create new possibilities that make the world a better place. This Engineers Week we hope that you’ll take a moment to recognize and celebrate the work of engineers and engage students in engineering. DiscoverE, the organization behind Engineers Week, has free resources you can use to inspire future innovators, such as hands-on engineering activities and lesson plans, information about engineering education, and pathways to a technical careers. Visit DiscoverE.org and get the help you need to focus on the “E” in STEM.
